CDAC: My Second Home (Part Ten)

July: End of course and a new beginning …

June had been a turning point for many of us. We got jobs; the most wanted thing for youth after completing 20+ years of age. I came to hostel on 1st July. Interview preparations were on as usual. Now when almost half of the students were done with interviews; project work was in full swing and also the tit-bits.

Placement Day Ten: 03.07.2012
Company name: MarketPlace Technologies

The same series continued: Pre-placement talk, General Aptitude, Technical Written Test and the final Interview session. The results were announced in the evening: Ritika, Sunita and Kunal were selected.

At last on 9th, we got the offer letter from Asian Paints. Our Date of Joining was 13.08.2012. Rest of the crowd had to join on 01.08.2012; so the CDAC authorities decided to complete the course before 31st. For the first time, exams were preponed. That means we need to finish off with the project as early as possible.

Placement Day Eleven: 09.07.2012
Company name: Acty System
This company had a really long procedure for the selection. First they visited CDAC and conducted the Pre-placement talk and aptitude test. Students were shortlisted. Then they called those students at their office for Technical tests and shortlisted a few. Again there was interview session. On 16th, four were selected: Shadab, Akshay, Abhishek and Sushil.

This was the last company to visit CDAC. The students had to go to next companies offices for the interviews. Yogesh got job of professor in an Engineering college in his hometown. House hunting started by now. Boys were searching for rooms nearby the office area. They were going to stay in groups of four or five. One thing was sure: “If you want to stay in Mumbai, you have to shell out money.” Now in the lab, there were talks on corporate life, plan travel to office, etc. And yes, project work was there and fun unlimited. The Gangs of Wasseypur songs were very famous. In the morning, Madhur would start with “I am a hunter” and in the evenings, these hostelites will play “O Womaniya…” and this was not enough that at night Neha would continue with “O Womaniya…” in the room.

The final project review was on 27th; everything was examined from UI to validation to coding to documentation. On 28th, we had MGPT 2: five of us cleared namely Litty, Tijo, Nirgun, Niket (Thank you God for that) and me. This time it was hard luck for Ranjith. Finally, the course was completed. The last project was done; the last practical exam was over. And there was fun and music in the evening. The very next day everyone started packing their bags. Some even left hostel in the evening. It was so difficult to do with the packing finally. But there was no other choice; we have to move ahead in life. I put all the online study material on G-Drive. Most of the students left on 30th since their DOJ was 01.08.2012 and they had to settle in the rented houses. The localites left on 31st, including me. The last Journey: going home from CDAC. It was raining heavily at 5pm. Friends said, “CDAC is crying, it does not want us to leave.”

I left the room with my belongings; goodbye to my cupboard (which stored all my stuff), goodbye to my bed (for the peaceful sleep, after tiring day), goodbye to my pillow (for helping in fighting with girlies and soaking my tears and being a teddy whenever I wanted), goodbye to my table and chair (for accompanying during study), goodbye to my balcony (for showing beautiful scenes and chirping birds and making my mornings really good), goodbye to my room finally. I surrendered the room keys, completed all the hostel formalities. I met everyone: staff, chefs, housekeeping, admins, etc and thanked them for always helping out and taking care and making us feel like home. I wished good luck to all my batch mates and left CDAC with a very heavy heart. Later in the Panvel-Dahanu train, I told my friends (train friends which I made on the Friday journey) that it’s my last day in this train. They were happy that I got a job, but would miss me. So would I.
