Himachal Diaries: Part Six

Day Five (05.07.2024): Road trip from Kalpa to Nako via Khab

Kalpa

Kalpa is a picturesque village nestled in the Kinnaur district. It offers breathtaking views of the Kinnaur Kailash mountain range, especially during sunrise when the snow-capped peaks are bathed in golden light. The Sutlej river flows through deep gorges below, adding to the dramatic landscape.

Kinnaur Kailas is a majestic mountain peak and holds immense religious significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. Hindus believe that it is the abode of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. The mountain is revered as a holy site and is often compared to Mount Kailash in Tibet, which is also associated with Lord Shiva.

I woke up quite early to witness the Kinnaur Kailas peak. I got ready and had breakfast at 8:30am.

Luggage was loaded in the vehicles and we started the journey towards Nako.

We halted at the Roghi cliff for a photoshop.

Roghi Cliff

Perched at an altitude of approx 2700m, the viewpoint offers a breathtaking perspective of snow-capped peaks, lush forests, and meandering rivers, creating a mesmerizing tableau that captivates the senses.

Further we halted at the Kasang Setu at 10:30am for admiring this amazing waterfall, followed by washroom, tea, coffee, maaza break.

We further drove till Khab and reached there at 1:30pm. The Khab Bridge is a remarkable structure which spans the confluence of the Sutlej and Spiti rivers, offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and valleys. We halted there for a few clicks.

We reached a dhaba for lunch at 2:30pm.

Post lunch we drove to Nako gompa and reached there at 3:15pm. More on this in next post.
