Himachal Diaries: Part Fifteen
Day Eight (08.07.2024): Road trip from Kaza to Losar via Chicham and Kibber
Chicham village is a remote and picturesque village known for its stunning landscapes, traditional Tibetan-style houses, and the impressive Chicham Bridge, which is one of the highest suspension bridges in Asia. We reached the bridge at 3:15pm.
Chicham Bridge
It is the highest motorable bridge in Asia, sitting at an altitude of around 13,596 feet above sea level. The bridge spans a deep gorge, connecting the villages of Chicham and Kibber. This has significantly reduced travel time between the two villages, improving connectivity for the local communities. The bridge offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Spiti Valley. The deep gorge below and the towering Himalayan peaks create a dramatic and awe-inspiring landscape. The bridge is a suspension bridge, meaning it's supported by cables. Its construction in such a remote and challenging environment is a testament to engineering ingenuity.
We had tea-coffee break at 3:45pm. Done with the photo clicking, we drove ahead to Kibber.
Kibber is a captivating village nestled at an elevation of 14,010 feet above the sea level, surrounded by rugged mountains and barren landscapes. It is gateway to the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary, a high-altitude sanctuary known for its population of snow leopards. It's a heaven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. It serves as a base for various treks and expeditions in the surrounding mountains.
We reached Losar Singha Ling homestay in Losar at 5:30pm. My room no was 2008.
We had dinner at 8:30pm, it was pitch dark outside and too cold. I got my bag ready for tomorrow and dozed off. Tomorrow would be most exciting as well as long day.
