My School Days

To All My School Buddies,

Currently we are having a steady career in our respective fields’ viz. Technology, Medical, Literature, Law, Finance, Own Business, Management, Designers, etc. And I wish that everyone keeps going ahead capturing bigger opportunities.

There are two things which have tied us all together: one is of course our friendship and the second is that all of us are “N. G. Vians”. It was the N. G. Vartak English Medium High School where all of us met each other for the first time. It’s been ten years now and on this Children’s Day I just thought of putting down few of my school memories here. I just hope none of you have STML (Short Term Memory Loss). So let’s go back….

Brilliant Blues (Pranita, Nishant, Prachi, Shaina, Pratik, Gaurang, Mitalee, Jayesh, etc)

Radiant Reds (Vijeta, Reshma, Harshal, Deepali, Sumeet, Snehal, Gunjan, Zarine, Priti, Jitendra, etc)

Great Greens (Sunny, Tushar, Nikhila, Gemini, Gaurav, Abhijeet, Snehal, Bhakti, Vanashri, etc)

And Yeah Yellows (Jaylaxmi, Supriya, Yash, Mansi, Ankita, Rushabh, Nimisha, Poonam, etc)

School Infrastructure:

• Playground: Here, we played sports, stood in queue during Mass Drill Periods (did exercise + had fun; in the White P.T. Uniforms), etc. There was a tamarind tree at one corner (and the ghost stories cooked up by us). We even got punishments (10 rounds of the ground).
• A.V.  Room: Here we had video lectures. But more often we used to watch Harry Potter movies.
• Library: A lot of fun happening here for each period. The librarian running behind boys saying, “Give me cards”.
• Computer lab (with unique chairs), Science lab, School hall (cum our classroom most of the times), and girls do you remember the “Last Class”?
• Class Room: Here we discussed anything. For example, Powerpuff girls and MojoJojo ka cartoon, K serials gossip, singing loudly the poems (“Shravan maasi harsh manasi”, “Nadiyan mere gaon ki”), cracking jokes, doing mimicry, playing pranks,etc.

School Picnics/Excursions/Camps:

Time spent at these places was memorable:

• Fantasyland, Tarapurwala Aquarium, Prince of Wales Museum, Gateway of India, Nehru Planetarium, Nehru Center (there was a photo which we could not figure out whether it was Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru or Salman Khan), Haji Ali (and a joke Haji Ali, Aaji aali), Mani Bhavan, Essel World (Aqua, Enterprise, Thunder, Rainbow, Hot wheels, Cup n Saucer, Octopus, Cyclone, Bhool Bhulaiya, Mirror Room), Shangrila Resort.
• Camp at Mahuli Fort, Shahapur, Asangaon (three days and two nights).

Our Favorite Pet names:

These names are of our friends, by our friends. I have not revealed anyone’s name here (because it’s our school days secret) but I guess you all can figure out who’s who by yourselves. Here are a few names which I remember:

Pumpkin (Bhopala), Bhoot-ala, Bhagat (Dhanno), Pav (1 and 2), Maggi (Modern Gandhi), USA, Chandramukhi, LUX (male and female version), Shepti, Chunni-Munni-Mughal-e-azam, Batali, Gangubai, China milkshake, Gabbro-Vikraal, Jassi, Pandu havaldar, Nailcutter, Bijli, Laaloo, Sannata (Sunshine), Nimmo, Tempo, Bulldog British, Mentos, Chatur, Supreme Court, America-Germany (war of VII/B), SRK (Raj Aryan of Mohabbatein).
