School Days: Mathematics Period
Maths was there since Kindergarten. Here we started from 1 to 10, two digit numbers, three digit numbers and so on. My class teachers for KG were Helen teacher and Sherill teacher. Then I had Maths in Class I (taught by Irin teacher) and Class II (taught by Reshma teacher). We learnt addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. As the Class progressed so did the syllabus of problem solving, difficulty. Alka Kadam teacher taught us in Class III for a while, then she went on maternity leave and we had different temporary teachers named Bhavi, Nixon, etc. Vaishali D'Silva teacher taught us in Class IV and we had interesting stories. Alka teacher was our class teacher in Class V so our morning started with numbers. Class VI to VII: lessons were taught by Clevy Claco teacher. The variables x, y, z got introduced and the quest to find their values. The unique thing was how to maintain our notebook. Then we had Hemlata Nayak teacher in Class VIII. The geometry box was introduced. Class IX & Class X, the subject was split into Algebra (taught by Farid Sheikh Sir) and Geometry (taught by Hemlata teacher). Algebra included variables, polynomials, equations, trigonometry, variation, proportion, graphs, etc. Geometry included theories to prove, all the shapes from line to decagon, perimeter to area & volumes, angles, draw symmetry, etc. Thus the Maths learned for more than a decade is just a memory now.
