School Days: English Period
English was there since Kindergarten. Here we started from A
to Z, two letter words (so, go, no, etc), three lettered words (hat,
rat, mat, cat, etc) and so on till the sentence and Myself. My class
teachers for KG were Helen teacher and Sherill teacher. Then I had
English I and English II in Class I (taught by Irin teacher) and Class
II (taught by Reshma teacher). There used to be small stories on value
education. This was as per Convent school syllabus. Our home shifted
thus shifting me from Convent to English medium and got the Balbharti
textbook in hand from Class III. Shweta Patil teacher taught us then the
stories of Birbal, Chanakya, etc. Supriya Valunjkar teacher taught us in
Class IV and the hands fold practice continue. Class V was most
interesting since we had to perform skit after each lesson taught by
Sneha Kamath teacher. We really enjoyed enacting characters of the play
and hence could remember the lessons well. Class VI to VIII: lessons
were taught by Choula Verma teacher. The syllabus included Shakespeare
stories (The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, etc), Wordsworth poems, etc.
Having used to this teaching for three consecutive years, it was a
difficult switch-over to Margaret teacher in Class IX. There was a lesson
'With the photographer'; we experienced it in real during our farewell
photo session. Class X had a mix of Ruskin Bond's Cherry tree, Rudyard
Kipling's Mowgli and the Bandarlog, Shakespeare poems and plays. Thus
the English learned for more than a decade is just a memory now.
