Around the World: Part Fourteen

To the falls of the Rhine and dinner on a lake

12.05.2019: Tour Day 6, Country 6, City 1&2
As we drove further into the Swiss land, we could witness the snow-clad mountain peaks. We were moving towards the largest waterfalls of Europe; the 150m wide and 23m high waterfall of the river Rhine, situated in the Neuhausen in Northern Switzerland.

Rhine Falls
We witnessed the first glimpse of the fall at early evening from the convoluted road to its right. We departed from the bus and walked our way to the falls. There was a Rhyfall Express, a kind of tram and we enjoyed photo shoot here. Later we had Vada-Pav and hot tea in the vicinity of the tram. Having fulfilled our stomachs with the hot snacks, we crossed the bridge, which took us further to our boat.
The pink Rhyfall Maendli, boat with upper surface open, took us as close as possible to the spectacular waterfall. The water was chilled; we were enthralled to view the gushing waters. There was an observation platform near the falls, having visitors viewing at the falls as if from their balcony window. We had two rounds of closed handshakes with the falls, from either side. Having watched the waters to the fullest, we returned to our bus.

Dinner Cruise
We further drove to the city of Lucerne in Central Switzerland. The snow-clad mountain views remained similar on the journey throughout the Swiss country. We boarded the steamer cruise on the banks of Lake Lucerne in the late evening for dinner and rejuvenation. We met co-travelers from Tour B. The cruise cuts through the waves and provides a panoramic view of the Lucerne city with the snow-clad mountain background. We enjoyed the Swiss Folklore music along with the starters and spicy chutney. Many did taste the wines. I got to eat my favorite noodles so nothing else seemed to be tastier than it. There were swans swimming across in the lake. Done with the dinner, everyone walked to the upper deck for music and dance. It was a DJ evening in the middle of the lake.

Kapellbrucke Bridge

Call it a water tower means a tower standing in the water; this is a covered wooden footbridge spanning diagonally on the river Reuss. It’s the world’s oldest surviving truss bridge.

Done with today’s sightseeing from the forests to the falls and lake; we headed towards our hotel Holiday Inn Express Lucerne – Neuenkirch at night. The most awaited part of the tour was tomorrow. So I got things prepared for the same and dozed off into the dreams of ice and snow.
