Around the World: Part Seventeen
In which a night was spent in the snow-capped hotel
14.05.2019: Tour Day 8,
Country 8, City 2
Having fulfilled our
eyes with the crystal sparkles, we moved ahead to Innsbruck and crossed the old bridge on the Inns River at around 05:30pm. Situated in the Inn Valley, the city
of Innsbruck is the capital of Tyrol, western Austria. We walked through the
streets of the old town for our first sightseeing, Golden Dachl (Golden Roof).
Golden Dachl
The roof consists of
2657 fire-gilded copper tiles. The Emperor Maximillian I and his wife Bianca
Maria Sforza used the balcony to watch the public during festivals, tournaments
and other events.
Done with today’s
sightseeing, we drove to our hotel at 06:30pm for dinner and night stay. We
were driving uphill in the surrounding of pine trees. This did hint us for a
snowy path ahead and yes indeed the path ahead was getting covered in snow. At
first there was slight snow sprinkled over the trees; then the snow blanket got
thick as we drove uphill through the zigzag road. The mesmerizing beauty on the
left of the road was something more than a Frozen
Experience. The 10 minutes’ drive
took us to Hotel Olympia 76; the hotel was covered in snow. We had really gone crazy in the
snowy and chilly atmosphere and the cherry on this cake of snow was the snowfall. We all were dancing with joy
and clicking selfies. No one even bothered to check into the rooms. As the
sunlight got dimmer, we checked into our rooms. It was a task to pull the
duffle trolley through the snowy road to the reception. I had a small but cozy
room with a small bed and a window to watch the amazing snowfall and the snow
gliding down the leaves of tall pine trees.
The dinner arrangement
was a level down; I went down the staircase. At the entrance, was a wolf’s skin
attached to the wall. The dinner was the usual course; I had French fries with
boiled and salted maize. Wrapping up the dinner, some of us were trying our
luck on connecting the Wi-Fi in the reception area. At last I gave up and went
to the room. I wanted to get up early to explore the place; I watched the
television until the mobile charged itself. I had watched the TV at every
single hotel we visited just for a few minutes; curious to know on what
channels do the locals watch. It was same as we do; there is a Sports channel,
News channel, Music channel, Cartoon channel, etc.
I woke up early, to view the amazing snow blankets increased by an inch or so. Having done a Chocos breakfast, I went out of the hotel to capture as much as I could from my eyes and in the camera. These wooden hotel roofs were covered with snow, also the balcony line and the benches. The small bushes were blossoming with the tiny snow flowers and buds. There was an outhouse adjacent to the hotel. The pathway, through which we entered the hotel, was covered in snow, so we had a tough task now to walk through along with our bags to the bus. Our bus was bathed in the snow; the coach had to try hard while opening the luggage compartment. The windows were watery due to the snow melting from the top of the bus. Finally, we all boarded the bus, had an amazing descending drive of 10 minutes through the Frozen Forests. We were travelling to the next country today.
