Visit to R&T Centre

 

The fourth visit on the ECA List was the Research & Technology Centre at Turbhe. We started from office at 2pm, a bus was arranged from Santacruz to Turbhe. We reached there at 02:40 pm, made an entry into the security register and walked through the green lanes. We had a presentation in the auditorium on R&T by Dr. Syed, where he briefed on the functioning and Green Seal and Green Assure paints. We had the lab visits next but thanks to HR for not informing us on wearing shoes is a compulsion; few of us had to go till the store room downstairs for getting a spare pair of safety shoes. The structure of the building has a rectangular open area in the center. All the walls and decor had the chemistry molecular themes. Researchers had aprons with their names knitted on it. R&T is divided into Interior Paints, Exterior Paints, PCAR, Emulsions, Microbiology, Water based, Resins, Advanced Capability (Nanotechnology), Industrial. The lab tour started, first we entered the Exterior textures testing lab. The labs mostly had small cans of AP, marble white tiles with some tests performed on it, journals with the actual and estimated values. The second lab was Special Effects testing wherein all the Royale Play textures are applied and variations are done. The third lab was Resin lab, typically a chemistry lab having all the conical flask, test tubes, chemical reaction apparatus structures. A demo was shown on how resin is prepared by condensation process and addition process. The fourth lab, where we were not allowed to enter, had spectroscopy, thermometric pigment, percentage content of lead in paint, etc. I wanted to see all the labs but we were showed only four. Anyways something is better than nothing. We got in the bus and were back to office by 6pm.
